In the face of death, the Church confidently proclaims that God has created each person for eternal life and that Jesus, the Son of God, by his death and resurrection, has broken the chains of sin and death that bound humanity. Christ "achieved his task of redeeming humanity and giving perfect glory to God, principally by the paschal mystery of his blessed passion, resurrection from the dead, and glorious ascension." (Vatican Council II, Constitution on the Liturgy Sacrosanctum Concilium, article 5.)
In order to help you plan in advance or on the occasion of the death of a loved one, our bereavement committee and clergy are prepared to meet with you to help you plan the liturgy and arrangements for a funeral Mass. This would include helping you choose the music, scriptural readings, and ministers for the Mass.
A liturgy planning sheet has been developed and is available for your convenience. Click here to open a copy.
To assist you in selecting the readings the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has made available the readings which may be used at funeral liturgies. To obtain or view this list, click here.
