"Honor the LORD with your wealth, with first fruits of all your produce; Then will your barns be filled with grain, with new wine your vats will overflow." (Proverbs 3:9-10)
The "Watterson building" was the home of Blessed Sacrament School for nearly one hundred years. As Blessed Sacrament School reached the end of its first one hundred years and the beginning of it second centennial, the parish found itself at a critical cross-roads: close the school or build a new one. The Watterson building had served the parish well for a long time, but it had reached the end of its road.
Our former pastor, Fr. Tim Hayes, along with our former Bishop, Bishop James Griffin, both recognized the historic commitment of Blessed Sacrament Church to the mission of Catholic Education. Through their leadership the plans and the financing of a new school building were approved. The new school building was completed in 2005 and is aptly named "The Centennial Building". This building is a building for the second century of Blessed Sacrament Church.
The Centennial Building serves the parish in many ways. It is the home of our parish school, where over 195 students and their teachers, supported by a great staff, gather during the school year for the great task of Catholic Education. It is the home of our parish CCD program, where all of our children have the opportunity to learn the truths of our faith. The Centennial Building is constantly being used. The parish offices are located in the building. RCIA, Cub Scouts, the Middle School and High School Youth Groups, the Marian Club, and the Holy Name Society all find a home in this beautiful building.
The building has been built, it is being used, and now it must be paid for. Thankfully at this time 100% of all donations to the Centennial Building Fund are applied to reduce the principal on the loan. We currently owe less than 2 million dollars.
There are many ways you can give to our fund. We take up a second collection on the first Sunday of every month. You can remember the Centennial Fund in your estate plans. Feel free to contact Connie at our parish office at (740) 345-4290 and we can set up a monthly donation that will be automatically deducted from your account. And, of course, you can mail a check to our parish.
